With a 5 hour lay over in London after flying from Nice and with 22 hours of travel still ahead of me, I have plenty of time to reflect on the past four and a half months away. I wrote a few updates on the way but to sum up the season two words, I would say ‘Consistently Frustrating’.
I have been healthy this whole European season and not missed a single run session for eight months (touch wood!). There has definitely been progress from February but I always wanted more and I wanted it to come faster. There in lies the frustration! I had some good races but nothing overly satisfying which to be honest, at times left me disheartened. I still love what I do every day so my plan is to stay patient and keep on working hard.
At times this can be a lonely sport but thanks to; my family, training partners, Jamie Turner my coach, Triathlon Australia, Graham Marcolin from McDonalds Sutton Forest, 2XU, Zealous Swimwear and TLA Worldwide, I always know there are people who have got my back with the highs and the lows. So while I have some downtime for a while, I am already looking forward to what the next season will bring!
Since my last update, I have spent a week and a half in Issy les Moulineaux, the base of my French team. A lovely couple, Alain and Yolande who made my time in Issy really special, took me in. Yes, I have been to Paris before…for a race. People do not always realise that even though I am in Europe, rarely do I get the chance to play tourist. So in between training, I climbed the Eiffel Tower, wandered through Louis XIV’s Versailles Castle and spent 4 hours on my bike visiting the monuments of Paris!
To finish off my stay, I travelled with my team to Nice in the French Riviera for the final French Grand Prix of the season. Team Issy went in to this race ranked second for the 2017 season and finished off third in the overall standings, the best result the team has had.
So now, I will have some down time and get ready for next season!
